Our Story
Hi there! We're Alex and Greg, the hearts behind yourdrobe.
What started as late-night conversations between a beauty advisor and a computer science student has blossomed into something we're truly proud to share with you. Alexandra Rivera is the creative soul who sees beauty everywhere – professionally as a beauty advisor, but really, it's just who she is at heart. Greg Sanchez is a UC Davis student juggling code and statistics by day, fashion enthusiast by night.
yourdrobe was born from a simple belief: everyone deserves to explore their style without boundaries, without judgment, and without breaking the bank trying on endless outfits. Now with eBay integration, you can discover fashion items and virtually try them on before you buy.
Why We Built This
Growing up, I found that fashion was more than just clothes. It was a language, a form of self-expression that transcended words. But I also watched friends struggle with confidence, unsure if they could "pull off" a certain look, hesitant to experiment with styles that called to them. Alex saw this daily in her work too, people yearning to try something new but held back by uncertainty or circumstance.
We realized technology could bridge this gap. What if you could try on that bold outfit from the comfort of your room? What if you could experiment with styles that feel totally "not you" until suddenly, they are? What if you could share your creativity with loved ones near and far, getting their input on your wedding outfit or showing grandma your graduation dress even when she's states away?
That's when yourdrobe stopped being just an idea and became our passion project.
What We Believe
Fashion is deeply personal, yet wonderfully communal. It's about finding yourself while celebrating others. We believe:
- Everyone is creative – sometimes we just need the right tools to unlock it
- Style has no rules – only suggestions, and even those are meant to be broken
- Expression should be safe – your style journey should happen on your terms, in your space
- Community makes us stronger – when we share our creativity, we inspire others to do the same
- Technology should empower, not replace – we're here to enhance your shopping experience, not eliminate the joy of finding that perfect piece
Our Dream
We envision a world where trying on clothes is an act of joy, not anxiety. Where someone recovering from surgery can still experience the delight of dress shopping. Where a student can experiment with professional looks before their first interview. Where designers from established artists to someone sketching their first idea can see their creations come to life on real people who love them.
But beyond the clothes, we dream of something bigger: a community where creativity is celebrated, where we lift each other up, and where self-expression is met with encouragement. We want yourdrobe to be a place where you can be boldly yourself or quietly experiment with who you might become.
The Personal Touch
Every feature we add, every decision we make, comes back to one question: "Will this help someone feel more themselves?" Alex reminds me daily that behind every upload is a person taking a brave step, whether they're trying on their first dress, experimenting with cultural fashion they've been hesitant to embrace, or just having fun on a Tuesday night.
We built yourdrobe with love, quite literally. Late nights coding while Alex sketches designs, weekend trips to local boutiques for inspiration, and endless conversations about how fashion intersects with identity, culture, and joy. This isn't just our project; it's our love letter to everyone who's ever stood in front of a mirror wondering "Can I pull this off?" (Spoiler: Yes, you absolutely can.)
